Continuing Education Courses that Count
Expanding our Learning Portfolio to meet Caregivers’ Needs
SEIU 775 Benefits Group has released over 40 new Continuing Education (CE) courses informed by caregiver feedback. These courses focus on topics caregivers identified as essential to their work, including support for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as other complex care needs.
Meeting Caregivers’ Evolving Needs
Over the next year, the Benefits Group will develop an additional 28 courses, expanding on the 43 courses recently released. This ongoing expansion demonstrates our proactive investment in Washington’s caregiving workforce, aligning with our broader goals for inclusive, lifelong learning.
Rooted in caregiver input, the newest courses explore topics such as:
- Autism
- Down Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Crisis Prevention
- Person-Centered Care
We are partnering with experts and institutions, such as the University of Washington, to develop additional new topics for courses focused on caring for clients 0-17 years old.
As a result of our strong advocacy and informed by caregiver feedback, the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) implemented a rule simplification that permits caregivers to repeat CE courses. This improvement enhances opportunities for ongoing learning and skill reinforcement.
Proven Impact of Continuing Education
Continuing Education equips caregivers to deliver high-quality, personalized care and the impact is clear:
- On average, 3,447 caregivers with a CE requirement take CE courses per month over the past 2 years.
- Nearly 1,500 caregivers voluntarily completed CE courses in May 2025 alone.
- 73% of family caregivers report CE topics are directly relevant to their work.
- 76% of family caregivers, including 78% of parent providers, report satisfaction with SEIU 775 Benefits Group training.
